HOW TO HOLD ONTO FAITH WHEN SATAN ATTACKS

This is how I responded to Satan's attack of doubt. Of course I never use all of the mentioned reasons here. But always one, and combine it with Scripture.

Reasons to hold onto our Faith when Satan is mocking our God and His creation whispering: “It’s all nonsense, its all a lie!”

Doubt is a human experience, even the strongest believers have faced moments of confusion, fear, or spiritual uncertainty. Scripture is filled with examples of people wrestling with doubt, yet God didn’t cast any of His away. He met them with grace, truth, and power and so He still does today.

Usually the first thought I have is that I can’t stand darkness. The deception, the fake smiles, the cruelty we inflict on each other, it wears me down. And I know crave the light. I long for innocence, truth, and goodness. And everything I’ve ever loved in that regard, everything truly good, I have found in Christ, truly and fully.

SPEAK THE TRUTH OUT LOUD

What are you doing Satan? Mocking, accusing, always doubting. So who you are to speak to me? Now listen well, you deceiver!

  • I know whom I have believed.” (2 Timothy 1:12)

  • “The Lord is faithful, and He will strengthen and protect you from the evil one.” (2 Thessalonians 3:3)

  • “There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.” (Romans 8:1)

I break your lies with God’s voice. And I say these things loud for you and me to hear.

REMEMBER THE CHARACTER OF GOD

Doubt often distorts our view of God. When suffering or confusion sets in, Satan whispers that God is absent, distant, or cruel.

Remember! Truth to Hold Onto:

  • God is unchanging (Malachi 3:6).

  • He is slow to anger and abounding in love (Psalm 103:8).

  • He does not lie or shift like shadows (James 1:17).

C.S. Lewis wrote, “When you are in the dark, you must remember what you saw in the light.” That is, don’t let your emotions or circumstances redefine who God is. His goodness is not dependent on your mood or current state.

USE WORSHIP AS WARFARE

Worship disarms the enemy. When Paul and Silas sang hymns in prison, chains broke (Acts 16:25–26). Worship turns our focus away from the storm and lifts it to the One who commands the wind and waves.

Keep a playlist of worship songs that remind you of God’s power, love, and truth. Sing, even if your voice shakes. Satan cannot stand the sound of genuine worship from a child of God.

BRING DOUBT INTO THE LIGHT

Satan’s goal is isolation. If he can convince you that you’re the only one struggling, shame grows. Yet Scripture says we are to carry each other’s burdens (Galatians 6:2).

Talk to a trusted Christian friend, pastor, or mentor. Tell them what you’re wrestling with. Confessing your doubts does not make you weak—it makes you wise. Lies lose their power in the presence of truth and community.

PRACTICE THE POWER OF THE NAME OF JESUS

The early church believed deeply in the authority of Jesus’ name. Demons fled, chains broke, and peace came when His name was spoken with faith.

When under attack, say His name. “Jesus, be near.” “Jesus, protect me.” “Jesus, I trust You.” You are not alone. His name carries authority that no power of hell can stand against (Philippians 2:10).

RECALL THE CROSS & RESURRECTION

Satan’s ultimate defeat happened at Calvary. Your doubts might be loud, but the cross is louder. Christ’s blood speaks a better word (Hebrews 12:24).

Martin Luther once said, “When the devil throws your sins in your face and declares that you deserve death and hell, tell him this: ‘I admit that I deserve death and hell. What of it? For I know One who suffered and made satisfaction on my behalf. His name is Jesus Christ, Son of God. And where He is, there I shall be also.’”

ANCHOR YOUR FAITH IN GOD'S PROMISES, NOT YOUR FEELINGS

Feelings are fleeting. But God's promises are anchored in eternity.

When you doubt your salvation, go back to John 10:28:
“I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of My hand.”

Charles Spurgeon encouraged this: “When you cannot trace His hand, trust His heart.”

FAST & PRAY

Some spiritual battles require deeper resistance. Jesus said that some battles are only overcome through fasting and prayer (Mark 9:29).

Set aside intentional time to fast (even a meal or an hour) and pray. Ask God for clarity, peace, and strength to resist temptation and doubt.

REMEMBER THE SAINTS WHO WALKED BEFORE YOU

You are not alone in your struggle. Even the most faithful heroes of the faith had seasons of doubt. And even the smallest of His sheep God will keep and hold.

  • Elijah wanted to die under a tree.

  • Job questioned God through deep suffering.

  • Thomas refused to believe without touching Christ’s wounds.

Yet each one encountered God’s grace in the midst of doubt.

STAY IN THE WORD, EVEN WHEN IT FEELS DRY

Satan will tempt you to close your Bible when doubt lingers. Don’t.

The Word is your sword (Ephesians 6:17).

Even if it feels lifeless in the moment, it is still living and active (Hebrews 4:12).
